Monday morning writing joke: “Shaggy Dog Story”

There once was a dog who could write.

She did so most every night.

The shaggy dog stories she told

Were not very bold

And didn’t have much of a bite.

Monday morning writing joke: “Writer Extraordinaire”

There once was a writer extraordinaire

For the less talented he did not care.

Then one day

His ghost writer gave him away

And credit with his mom he had to share.

Writing tip Wednesday: “Flush with success”

A simple writing tip to start the New Year. /
I will say it once, so gather round here. /
Whatever you may do about beginnings and ends /
When sitting on the throne do not hours spend. /
Your poem you will not complete before other deeds are done. /
And your legs and your feet will be the slumbering ones. /
Your audience, too, may have abandoned you. /
They may find what you have done not the best you can doo-doo.

Simple tip to start out the New Year. Do not write a completed poem while sitting on the commode. Before you’re finished, your legs — if not your audience — will be numb and asleep.

cARtOONSdAY: “eXIT rIGHT”

How you end a scene or chapter is as important as how you begin one.

Staged exit

Staged exit right.

Left in a flight.

Rung drama from the night

Exited before day bright.

We cried, “No more!”

Our eyes cast to the floor

We showed him the door.

He cried, “You bore.”

He left with a sting

Like a long hard fling

When the door it swings

Into the ding-a-king.

Staged exit

Monday morning writing joke: “A writer from Saskatchewan”

There once was a writer from Saskatchewan /

Who wasn’t sure he could still catch one /

He gave a good chase /

In a world of bodice and lace /

But his writing, like his love life, had come undone.
