An Act of God, you say

An Act of God

It was an Act of God, we said
that killed the children and made them dead.
There was no other answer so
for why the children had to go.
The triggers were pulled, the bullets fast
and it was God when made them past.
Oh why, oh why would God do so?
But “An Act of God” is all we know.
We now put guns in our parks
in case of criminals there in the dark
acting out God’s will, you know
culling the herd of those too slow
to pull a gun and aim it fast
to squeeze the trigger and make it blast
the muzzle to thunder with God’s own voice.
After all, you know, we have no choice.
“It’s An Act of God,” we will say
when the police take us away
and we’ll utter that magical chant
and our actions we won’t recant
when the body’s pulled into the light
of the child who’d hidden in fright
thinking we were the ones to fear
and how that now seems so queer
that we would be the ones to fear.
Yes, we would be the ones to fear.

Silly Bills

by David E. Booker

O’, Pause and let us now behold
the elected intelligence in all its mold.
Bills run amuck of mind and light:
Sufficient fright for a Halloween night.
And there was more, lest you forget
a bill to take away your right to vote yet
for the U.S. Senator of your choice
Enlightened legislators said, “That’s our voice.”
Only a call from fed Senator Corker
prevented that piece of legislative porker.
Many other state bills ceased to be
because big money donors were displeased.
So, say what you will about money buying votes.
It may not get bills passed; but it can get them smote.

Tennessee State flag: 0′ what trouble can they conceive when the state GOP is allowed to breathe.

NASHVILLE — On the state Senate floor last week, Sen. Brian Kelsey brought up a resolution that he explained as putting senators on record as declaring “if the federal government tries to infringe on our rights as American citizens, then we will intervene and fight for those rights.”

This prompted Senate Majority Leader Mark Norris to ask his fellow Republican how the resolution (SR17) differed from perhaps the most prominent of several bills introduced this year to nullify federal laws and subject federal officers to prosecution should they try to enforce them.

Would you trust this man?

Rep. Curry Todd's arrest photo

Would you trust this man with a gun?

Would you trust this man with a handgun?

Would you trust him if you knew he was an ex-Memphis police officer?

Would you trust him if you knew he was an ex-police officer with a .38-caliber handgun tucked between the driver’s seat and console of his SUV?

Would you trust him if you knew he refused to take a Breathalyzer test, after being stopped by Nashville police officers for driving 60 miles per hour in a 40 mph zone and weaving across the double yellow lines on a street near Vanderbilt University?

Would you trust him if you knew he was Tennessee state Representative, Republican from Collierville?

Would you trust him if you knew he was the House sponsor of the bill (later mad law) allowing handguns in bars?

If so, Curry Todd, the man in photo, is the person you would trust.

Your tax dollars at work.

It will be interesting see how the state Republicans protect one of their own who to the serve part of the motto “to Protect and Serve” to mean how many drinks he could serve himself and still drive.
