“Daikon radish”

Daikon radish

My Daikon radish

Points to a fetish.

It’s a bit raffish

Lying there.

It’s a vegetable

That I’ll tell you

To dispel you

Of notions there.

Its shape suggests

That it’s erectile blessed

And why I guessed

That you stared.

But rest assured

Your point’s absurd.

There’s no aphrodisiac curd

Made the Daikon way.

“One of these days”

One of these days

Oh tree, my tree,

Please hide me.

I want to stay

Away today.

I don’t want work

Nor stupid jerks

To come my way.

I want to be

By my little tree

And fill my my days

With poetry.

Oh tree, little tree

Stand by me.

Please, please

Hide me.

“Oh, my balls….”

Oh, my balls…

Oh, my balls are a tangled mess /

Clattered together like a car wreck compress. /

Oh, my balls are twisted tight. /

Not really painful, but oh, what a sight. /

Oh, my balls are dangling there /

Unable to move in the moaning air. /

Yes, my balls are one big wad. /

They’d be blue if attached to a bod. /

But thankfully, they’re just hanging there, /

Bunched up on their rack without a care.

“If I should meet”

If I should meet

If this author I should meet

In a bookstore or on the street

Will she autograph my books

Or give me ugly, sullen looks?

Will she shoo her hand and say,

“Old man just go away.”

Or will she take her pen in hand

And send me to the Promised Land?

Driving pen down into my heart

And ending life with a sudden start?

Or will she stop and graciously offer

To personalize the books I proffer?

Thanking me for supporting her

Though these works may be obscure?

If this author I should meet

On a bench or restaurant seat

Sadly, I’ll not have her books with me.

What a disappointment that will be.

Sunday silliness: “Chocolate cake”

Today is National Chocolate Cake Day and National Inane Answering Message Day or NIAD (Nigh-Add) for short.

So, go have a piece or two or chocolate cake and record this on your answering machine:

“I had cake. It was great.

Leave a message and I may relate.

Vanilla’s fine. Strawberry, too.

But chocolate’s the only one that’ll do.

Chocolate cake and chocolate frosting.

Chocolate from beginning to topping.

Leave a message after the beep,

unless you’re a salesman or some beep-beep creep.”

Saturday silliness: “Seasonal Greetings”

Seasonal Greetings

I got a Christmas card from you. /

Now, dang it, I feel obligated to /

Send you one in return, /

A card to make your envy burn. /

Yes, and it will be homemade. /

By my hand, the artistry bade. /

Or maybe something sentimental and rank, /

Since all I draw is to draw a blank.

Poem and photo: “Into the Earth”

Into the Earth

The stream of color /

the leaves of sound /

the grounding of light /

into the Earth we are bound.

Poem and illustration: “Tilt”

Tilt

Do you run like Mercury? /

Straight arrow to the end? /

Is you love like Venus? /

Head over heals to begin? /

Are you a quarter way over, /

Mars tilted into battle? /

Or are you Uranus, /

Cockeyed like a rattle? /

Jupiter tilts only slightly /

As the mighty often do. /

Saturn, Neptune, and Ol’ Earth /

Bend as if they’ve had a few, /

Hanging out with Mars, /

Swapping stories, one or two. /

All the planets have stories /

And each an angle of repose. /

That includes Pluto, to whom /

Some have turned up their collective nose.

Poem and illustration: “It’s the economy, stupid”

The economy, stupid

Oh, crap, it’s the economy, /

The dinosaur said, ignoring astronomy. /

The big rock blazed through the sky /

Attracted attention as it hurtled by./

It matter little they were in danger /

From this fulsome, rocky, plummeting stranger. /

It’s the economy, again came the cry. /

Nothing else matters, “Even if we die!“ /

It’s wonderful to have and hold your things /

And the temporary joy ownership brings. /

But when you’re dead and in the ground /

The joy of ownership will let you down.
