Star Trek: The Next Germination: “The multigrain sandwich and war”

Multigrain for Picard

Made chewing very hard

On the bridge to make it so.

Because of that special dough

When the Romulans did appear

The sandwich would not clear

His throat so he could order

“Data, warp 8 to the boarder!”

Now, over 20 years have passed

And his days in Starfleet amassed

In history books where stories are told

Of his feats, both brave and bold.

But there is one footnote aside

About the one mission that was tried.

Enterprise and crew were almost lost

Until Number One grabbed and tossed

The multi-grain demon across the bridge

Striking Worf upon his ridge,

And then he slapped Picard on the back

Which caused the Captain to go “Hack-ack-ack.”

Worf thought that meant aim and fire

Photons and phaser banks entire.

When the weapons were all depleted

And Picard was finally seated

Worf peeled the sandwich from his head

Took a bite and boldly said,

“Needs mustard.”

Photo finish Friday (and haiku): “Exhausted”

The man on the bus /

Urges me to “Keep it up!” /

But he’s exhausted.

Haiku (and cartoon) to you Thursday: “New Year”

Another year lapses /
Burdened with what might have beens: /
Tomorrow whispers.

Writing tip Wednesday: “Flush with success”

A simple writing tip to start the New Year. /
I will say it once, so gather round here. /
Whatever you may do about beginnings and ends /
When sitting on the throne do not hours spend. /
Your poem you will not complete before other deeds are done. /
And your legs and your feet will be the slumbering ones. /
Your audience, too, may have abandoned you. /
They may find what you have done not the best you can doo-doo.

Simple tip to start out the New Year. Do not write a completed poem while sitting on the commode. Before you’re finished, your legs — if not your audience — will be numb and asleep.

cARtOONSdAY: “eXIT rIGHT”

How you end a scene or chapter is as important as how you begin one.

Staged exit

Staged exit right.

Left in a flight.

Rung drama from the night

Exited before day bright.

We cried, “No more!”

Our eyes cast to the floor

We showed him the door.

He cried, “You bore.”

He left with a sting

Like a long hard fling

When the door it swings

Into the ding-a-king.

Staged exit

Monday morning writing joke: “A writer from Saskatchewan”

There once was a writer from Saskatchewan /

Who wasn’t sure he could still catch one /

He gave a good chase /

In a world of bodice and lace /

But his writing, like his love life, had come undone.

Haiku to you Thursday (and photo): “Dreams”

Old, abandoned trunk /

Life is not always as it seems /

Damaged, distant dreams.

Monday morning writing joke: “Wolf packed”

There once was a woman from Tangier /
Who had a wolf on her head, it appears. /
It would not go away /
Not even on Thanksgiving Day. /
He said, “By Christmas, I’ll have eaten you, my dear.”

Monday morning writing joke: “Big Willy”

There once was a short poet from Philly, /

who went by the name of Big Willy. /

In his verse he would curse, /

get bawdy or worse /

spewing forth his magnum opus willy-nilly.
