Icarus
I lack the sky /
and even if I could fly /
the birds would laugh.

Vase
Inside the vase, /
same as outside the vase; /
flowers find home in both.

Pumpkin spice
Oh, that pumpkin spice.
Some say, “How nice.”
Some say, “It doesn’t entice.”
In your latte or your cocoa cup,
It’s meant to please, to fill you up.
It’s as though this orange gourd
Was handed down by some manor lord.
But is this what Halloween means?
Lining someone else purse with our green
As we smell it, taste it, baste it,
Living as if we cannot waste it?
Oh, that odorous pumpkin spice,
Coming to offer, to entice.
A little pumpkin can be nice,
But a lot is like having lice.

The flash
A flash of inspiration,
Showering the consternation
While trying to find usurpation
Because the damn thing won’t work.
Moments of contemplation,
Mental hiccups and gyrations
Have led to this perturbation:
Water and electricity to twerk.
The world in needed restoration
Could use so full lubrication:
Sweat, blood, toil – an aggregation
Exploding with a jerk.

Whisper
Falling leaves of fall /

winter is coming.

Hanging with the dead, /
may mean fingeratively,

Autumn descends
Old leaves and lost light, /
days of autumn descend on /
young cat and stone bench.

Seasonal waters
It is the season. /
I drink from the mouth of death /
to quench my parched bones. /
Though I shall never be done /
for death now flows forth from me.
