A cup of Mercury

I swallowed from the cup of Mercury

to cover my absurdity.

The ambrosia of Venus

was cloudy in toxic meanness.

I raised a toast to ol’ Earth

the land of mirth and birth.

I’d thought I’d reached the stars

but was only a sip of Mars.

“Here’s mud in your eye,”

I said to Jupiter by and by.

I left a ring around Saturn —

just following an old pattern.

I drank from Uranus

though you thought me an ignoramus.

Things got kind of blurry

drinking from Neptune in such a hurry.

I got blotto on Pluto —

as a planet I couldn’t let go.

Monday morning writing joke: “Mars Bar”

There once was a writer from Mars

Who fell to Earth into a bar.

He searched for inspiration

In his makeshift destination.

And found writers who hadn’t gotten very far.

Haiku to you Thursday: “Curiosity”

Curiosity
builds wonder from achievement
and knowledge from hope.

[Editor’s note: inspired by the recent successful landing by NASA of Curiosity on Mars. Worth all the medals at the Olympics, and then some.]

Curiosity, the latest Mars rover, with some of her cameras pointed out. This 1-ton vehicle and science lab landed by NASA in the early morning of August 6, 2012 Eastern Time.
