“Sweet Heat”

Sweet Heat

Sweet heat of Jesus /

Tastes full-bodied on your tongue /

Psalm to calm it down.

Saturday silliness: “Cookie fails”

Cookie Fails

I have committed all those sins, /

Once and again /

When baking the day away. /

In the kitchen I run /

Mixer, thumb, and hum /

As I try to get the dough my way. /

But, alas, by turns /

Overmixed to burned, /

My baking fails like clay /

Lost on a potter’s wheel /

Self-creation piecemeal /

That has gone astray. /

But fool that I be /

Mount Success for me /

So into the recipe I climb. /

Mix and shape /

Measure and bake /

Then wait again for the timer’s chime.

Then out come my cookies. /

Oh, take a look! See /

How they look divine. /

I sit on my stool, /

Fidgeting until cool, /

Then I dine on this feast of mine.

Photo finish Friday: “Skeleton of memories”

Skeleton of memories

Winter killed our tree. /

Don’t know if it was before, /

during, or after /

your death. Dead limbs hang barren: /

no buds, no leaves, no cherries. /

Skeleton of memories.

“Burnt fingers”

Burnt fingers

Burned by deep cold, leaves /

open to spring’s renewed touch. /

Winter’s fingers crossed.

Dabbled thoughts

Each snowflake a thought /

piled on the dappled stone bench. /

Soon gone in sunlight.

Sunset

Spring holds hope within, /

waits on the windy sunset /

to sweep out winter.

The dove and the moon /

Haiku to you Thursday: “Yesterdays”

Yesterdays

The snows of the past /

glaze into the ice of now, /

then leave us alone.
