Poem and photo: “First draft”

First draft

‪“Guess what?”‬

‪“Chicken butt.”‬

‪He fell over into the rut.‬

‪“How high?”‬

‪“A baby’s cry?”‬

‪He gave me the quizzical eye.‬

‪“Knock. Knock.”‬

‪“You’re a smelly old sock.”‬

‪He looked at me like my head’s down the block.‬

‪“Bye bye.”‬

‪“Here’s mud in your eye.”‬

‪He shook his head and tried to fly.‬
