“Running Chicken”

Q.: Why did the Running Chicken Nebula cross the galaxy?

A.: To get its photo taken by Hubble.

IC2944, Running Chicken Nebula, is a cluster of stars associated with the surrounding emission nebula located towards Centaurus constellation at 6500 light years from Earth. The object spans some 100 light years across the sky and is visible only from the southern hemisphere. The image includes another two emission nebule, the bright IC2948 and the fainter IC2872.
