“Contemplate”

Contemplate

The metal cock

And the small flower

Stood by the window

For hours and hours.

The cock could not crow.

The flower could not dine.

Still, very still, they had a good time.

The sunlight filtered through

The kitchen window stained glass.

They stood there in relief

As each hour passed.

Sadly, one day, the small orchid

Will be gone

And only the metal crow

Will silently carry on.
