Lacewing

Translucent lacewing, /

Benefits not from the sun. /

Poem and illustration: “It’s the economy, stupid”

The economy, stupid

Oh, crap, it’s the economy, /

The dinosaur said, ignoring astronomy. /

The big rock blazed through the sky /

Attracted attention as it hurtled by./

It matter little they were in danger /

From this fulsome, rocky, plummeting stranger. /

It’s the economy, again came the cry. /

Nothing else matters, “Even if we die!“ /

It’s wonderful to have and hold your things /

And the temporary joy ownership brings. /

But when you’re dead and in the ground /

The joy of ownership will let you down.

Recycling

Flames bloom like wildflowers /

Neighbors sprout masks, recycle air. /

Toxic smoke rains down.

Objects

Gathering objects /

Scattered and forgotten /

Spring and beauty found.
