Flickering
Next remembers nothing /
Of the world it inherited /
From yesterday’s dreams /
Burning brightly but shortly /
On a stack of birthday cake. /
Take all the kindness /
And burn away the sorrow:
One flame for regret /
One flame for forgetfulness /
Two for forgiveness: one outer/
And one inner /
One flame for the quiet that may never come /
One flame for all left not done. /
And maybe one for love stretched over the decades /
Flickering still on this least of holy nights.

The nose
The nose knows no no’s. /
Olfactory exploring. /
The damp detective.

Rain falls
Rain falls on the /
Just and unjust and sometimes /
Rain falls just because.

Active
Active head rest /
Surely, the car makes a jest. /
I laugh as air bag crests.

Odds and ends
Stray cat, tame flowers. /
February spring, March hours. /
Love now, storm glowers.

Color
The daffodils and /
orchid bloom in the window. /
Light stained with color.

Thieves
A thousand thieves may /
rip the jonquils from the ground /
but they can’t steal Spring.

Spring
You came unannounced. /
Arising quickly in March. /
Blooms and promises.
