Trees fall, power fails,
Sirens wail into the night.
Thunder laughs; man sighs.

Fallen Hackberry tree, over 50 feet tall. Unfortunately, it has probably killed many blueberry bushes lying underneath the branches.
[Editor’s note: over 40,000 or the 100,000 customers served by the Knoxville Utilities Board were, at one time, without power due a powerful line of storms that passed through the area on July 5, 2012. I was without power for nearly four hours and have this downed tree to deal with.]
Sorry for the lose of the blueberry bushes. July 5th flipped the switch up here and the sun came out. Unofficially summer rarely starts before then and this year was no different. While the sun coming out isn’t as dramatic as your storms people here were walking around in a daze. We are always so shocked when the clouds clear and summer actually begins.
Humans had their fireworks on the 4th; nature had its on the 5th. Nice to read that mad dogs and Port Townsendians (probably not correct designation) come out in the noon-day sun of summer. Here there had been plenty of sun, too much sun in June, and not nearly enough rain. Grass was brown and crunched like popcorn when I walked across the yard. It was the daily movie called “Drought” until yesterday. Thank you for stopping by and commenting.
Yes, organically grown, free-range firewood. Died from a nature if not natural death.
Nearly four hours! Bah! We were in the middle of hosting a dinner party at 6:30 when it went out and it didn’t come back until 2:43 am. Lost half the roof to the barn and a tree fell and knocked our cable out.
I didn’t say “Oh, woe is me.” Just reporting how long the power was out. Still working on the tree. To re-work an old joke: How do you get a little tree? Start with a big one.” I hope things are returning to normal where you are and that your dinner guests weren’t too upset. Back to tree cutting and brush hauling for me. Thanks for commenting.
